The National Heritage Board preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore. We encourage the preservation of national monuments, develop heritage programmes, mark historic sites and provide consultancy services to organisations who wish to perpetuate our heritage. Much of our focus includes outreach activities that bring heritage to where our people are, such as travelling exhibitions and heritage trails. Assistant Curator (Indian Heritage Centre) Asian Civilisations Museum
(Singapore)
Responsibilities:
- To work closely with a Senior Curator to conceptualise and develop themes for permanent and special exhibitions, research the historical and social significance of Singapore’s history with special focus on Indian communities
- To assist to source for and administer loans and donations from other museums and private collectors, as well as new artefact acquisitions
- To work closely with a team of museum professionals including designers, conservators and technicians to set up exhibitions, and project manage exhibitions, publications and other associated media
Requirements:
- Possess a good honours degree (at least 2nd Upper Honours), in a relevant subject like South Asian studies, Indian Art History, history, Anthropology or Sociology, with a strong interest and knowledge in South Asian material culture as well as ancient and modern history
- Have excellent written communication and organisational skills. Spoken and written knowledge of a South Asian second language (preferably Tamil) is necessary
- Working knowledge of multimedia technology would be preferable
- Be able to work independently and also be a good team player
- Previous research or curatorial work experience would be advantageous
